David's Squidward Cake (Spongebob) (2013)
One of the guys in the office turned 50 who is sometimes known as Squidward
for his optimism. He is a great guy and I really wanted to do a cake for the
occasion. The other guys dressed his cube up really well :).
I tried to
make a cake depicting the SpongeBob gang surprising Squidward at his house with
a party. Plankton is of course angry that he wasn't invited. I was able to find
Squidward, SpongeBob, Patrick, Mr Krabs, Plankton, Gary and Sandy figures on
Amazon. Squidward looks back and forth watching his "idiot" friends, Sandy and
SpongeBob are jumping up and down. Mr Krabs is dancing around with his money,
Gary is dancing (fwd and back). Plankton hops out shaking his fist (or so I
say). The Patrick figure was laying down so I added him up top blowing bubbles.
I specifically left off SpongeBob and Patricks' houses because I wanted the
focus to be on Squidward. The cake itself is very simple, 6 box cakes (yellow)
flattened on the bottom and two batches of rice krispies make up Squid's house.
The house is covered in fondant and the cake with vanilla buttercream. There is
ground graham crackers on the frosting to look like sand. The house was colored
by airbrush. I guess it was a hit because it was all gone by the end of the day.
